The Liberal government is unveiling the first in a series of long-awaited peacekeeping commitments, sending a detachment of helicopters and support troops to the troubled west African nation of Mali.
The year-long deployment is slated to begin in August.
Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan and Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland are announcing the plan in the foyer of the House of Commons Monday.
News of the plan first surfaced on Friday.
A senior government official told CBC News that Canada had secured a commitment that another nation would be ready to relieve the detachment in 2019.
