An infectious disease expert at the University of California explains bacteria is everywhere and a Petri dish left just about anywhere for three minutes would develop some sort of culture.
A Dyson spokesperson sent News10NBC this statement: "We're very surprised to see these results, and unclear on the methodology employed. All Dyson AirbladeTM hand dryers have HEPA filters that capture particles as small as bacteria from the washroom air before it leaves the machine. Dyson AirbladeTM hand dryers are proven hygienic by university research and are trusted by hospitals, food manufacturers and businesses worldwide."
Dyson reps also claim they have been reaching out to this Carlsbad woman to understand her methodology for this test, but they have not heard back.
Scientists don't know for sure if these hand dryers can spread pathogens. If you are worried, you can opt for the less eco-friendly way to dry your hands and use a paper towel.
