A mother added a chemical typically found in bleach to her daughter's drinks to "help" her autism, according to a police report.
The unidentified mom, 28, added drops of hydrochloric acid and water purifying solution in her daughter's drinks, according to a Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report.
Hydrochloric acid is a colorless, poisonous liquid that can severely burn skin and mucous membranes, cause bleeding and scaring.
The mother reportedly heard about the mixture in a Facebook group. There is no known cure for autism.
She was feeding her daughter the toxic mixture a few weeks ago, and talked about it with the child's father last weekend, police report. Soon after, authorities were involved and the child was placed in protective custody.
The age of the child was not released.
This is an ongoing investigation and no arrests have been made, Jim Gillespie with the police department told USA TODAY.
