(MENAFN) A radio-astronomer has blamed the crypto-currency mining trend over difficulties facing scientists, who are listening out for broadcasts from extra-terrestrials, of not being able to obtain necessary computer hardware.
Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (seti) had been seeking for development in operations at a couple of observatories when a shortage of essential chips was found.
Radio-astronomer Dan Werthimer complained about the issue, saying "we'd like to use the latest GPUs [graphics processing units]... and we can't get 'em."
He then explained "that's limiting our search for extra-terrestrials, to try to answer the question, 'Are we alone? Is there anybody out there?'.
